Emergency Renewal Information

Blaine County Drivers Services and DMV are currently closed to the public. The public is encouraged to use ITD’s online services at https://itd.idaho.gov/itddmv/ Many renewals can be done online. 

Effective immediately, the Idaho Transportation Department has extended all Driver’s Licenses, Driver’s Training Permits, Instruction Permits, Commercial Learner’s Permits, Identification Cards, and Commercial Driver’s Licenses (CDL) without a hazmat endorsement that are expired or will expire between March 1, 2020, and May 31, 2020, to be valid until June 30, 2020.

ITD has also extended all Vehicle Registrations and Temporary Handicap Placards that are expired or will expire between March 1, 2020, and May 31, 2020, to be valid until June 30, 2020. This extension applies to all registrations issued at a county office such as passenger, commercial, noncommercial, and farm registered vehicles.

Please be aware that ITD is not issuing any reprinted credentials because of these extensions. At this time, ITD only issuing a blanket notice. It is recommended that anyone with an expired credential covered by the notice carry a copy of the notice. A printable full coy of the ITD notice is available below.

Licensing Information

Anyone who operates a motor vehicle on the public roads in Idaho is required to have a valid driver’s license.

Students attending a college or university in Idaho and members of the U.S. Military on active duty and their dependents who hold a valid driver’s license from another state or country and who claim residency in that state or country are not required to obtain an Idaho driver’s license.

Documents Required for Licensing

If you are a new applicant for a driver’s license, instruction permit, identity card, or driver training permit, you are required to provide the following documents:

  • Driver Training Completion
  • Foreign Drivers License (if applicable)
  • Liability Signer if under 18
  • Non-Idaho Driver’s License or I.D. Cards
  • Proof of Age and Identity
  • Proof of Idaho Residency
  • Social Security Card
  • Verification of School  Compliance (VOC) if under 18
  • Visual / Medical Certification (if required)
