On Friday, July 29, 2022, at approximately 11:02 a.m., Blaine County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of a head-on bicycle versus bicycle crash on the bike path at the intersection of Gimlet Road, south of Ketchum, Idaho.
The crash scene investigation determined that James R. Bartolino, age 61 of Ketchum, Idaho was riding a bicycle northbound on the west side of the bike path when the crash occurred. Richard H. Papalian, age 67 of Sun Valley, Idaho was riding southbound on the west side of the bike path. The riders approached the stop sign at Gimlet Road from opposite directions, a truck stopped in the roadway and motioned to the riders to cross the road. The two bicycles hit handlebars and collided head-on.
Papalian was transported by ground ambulance to Wood River Medical Center for medical treatment.
