On Monday, November 7, 2022, at approximately 6:41 a.m., Blaine County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a bus versus car collision on State Highway 75 near Rainbow Bend, south of Ketchum, Idaho.
The crash involved lane blockage, injuries, and a pinned driver. Upon investigation, it was determined that a full-size Mountain Rides bus traveling northbound on Hwy 75 and driven by Hortencia Aguilar-Venegas, age 47 of Richfield, Idaho, lost control, crossed into the oncoming lane, hitting a silver 1996 Honda Accord head-on, before crashing into the southbound barrow pit. The bus driver stated that snowy roads were a factor in her losing control of the bus.
The driver of the Honda, David J. Inman, age 56 of Shoshone, Idaho, was extricated from his vehicle and transported to St. Luke’s Wood River Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. The bus had fifteen people on board: fourteen passengers and the driver. One passenger, Shellie L. Gallagher, age 63 of Hailey, Idaho, was also transported for minor injuries. Other occupants sought medical treatment privately or were transported by family and friends.
Aguilar-Venegas was cited for Driving Too Fast for the Conditions, I.C. 49-654(1). Both the bus and the Honda were towed from the scene with significant damage.
