On Saturday, November 19, 2022, at approximately 1:43 p.m. Blaine County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a semi vs car collision at the intersection of U.S. Highway 20 and Main Street in Carey, Idaho.
Crash scene investigation determined that a 66-year-old male from Jerome, Idaho was driving a 2001 brown Freightliner semi-truck with double grain trailers southbound on Main Street when a 2008 silver Ford Edge ran a stop sign and pulled out in front of the truck. The trailer was loaded with 112,000 pounds of barley and could not stop in time to avoid a collision with the Ford.
The driver of the semi was wearing a seatbelt and did not have any visible injuries. The occupants of the Ford had to be extricated from their vehicle. The driver of the Ford was a 17-year-old female from Bellevue, Idaho who was learning to drive from the 35-year-old male front-seat passenger from Castleford, Idaho. Both of the Ford front seat passengers, who were wearing their seatbelts, sustained moderate injuries in the collision and were transported by ground ambulance to St. Luke’s Wood River Medical Center. A backseat passenger in the Ford, a seven-year-old male from Bellevue, Idaho, was not wearing a seatbelt and was flown by air ambulance to the Portneuf Medical Center in Pocatello for medical treatment.
The female driver was cited for Failure to Purchase a Drivers License, I.C. 49-301(1), and given a warning for Failure to Obey a Traffic Control Sign, I.C.49-801. The male front seat passenger was cited for Permitting a Minor to Drive Unlawfully, I.C. 49-333(1), and Failure to Provide Proof of Insurance, I.C. 49-1232.
The Ford sustained major damages and was towed from the scene. The semi-truck sustained moderate damage.
