On Wednesday, August 2, 2023, at approximately 5:38 a.m., Blaine County Sheriff’s deputies began a pursuit of a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed westbound on U.S. Highway 26 near the Blaine and Butte County line.
The vehicle, a blue 2023 Chevrolet 1500 U.S. Government-issued truck, led officers on a chase traveling at speeds up to 110 MPH in a 65 MPH zone on the highway and 90 MPH in a 35 MPH zone in Carey, Idaho, passing vehicles and refusing to pull over. Deputies pursued the truck for approximately eight miles before they successfully spike-stripped the truck on Main St. in Carey, bringing it to a stop on U.S. Highway 20 at milepost 195.
Kyle William Foster, age 34 of Mackay, Idaho, the sole occupant was arrested and charged with felony Eluding an Officer, I.C. 49-104, and felony Grand Theft Possession of a Stolen Vehicle, I.C. 18-2403(4), 18-2407.
The government-issued truck was allegedly stolen from a gas station in Mackay on Tuesday morning while the driver was getting coffee. Foster was the subject of a welfare check earlier Wednesday morning issued by Custer County but was not located until the pursuit.
Foster was arraigned in Magistrate Court Wednesday afternoon. He is currently being held on a $150,000 combined bond in the Blaine County Detention Center. Foster is expected to be facing additional charges in Custer County, Idaho.
